Shadows and Figures, and things that go "bump" in the night.
Now, I'm sure we have all had a moment in our lives where you see a person as you are walking, a shadow or a figure, decide to take a second look because "something just didn't feel right" only to find that there is nothing there anymore. Maybe it was just a movement out of the corner of your eye, or perhaps the hair-raising feeling that you're being watched or that something is breathing down your back. Now, this could all be just you being paranoid again, or - if you believe - it could be something of supernatural origin.
Before I take you into the specifics of what I understand about spiritual entities I cannot stress strongly enough how I usually try to avoid that word; "supernatural". To be "supernatural", to me, means being something more than natural which would suggest to many people that it is not something of this world and, therefore, untrue. On the contrary, I believe that spiritual entities are quite rather like the Platypus which too was considered a mythical animal toward the end of the 18th century.
Spiritual Consciousness and Psychic Imprints
One explanation I can offer for some spiritual encounters are that of Spiritual Imprints.
To be psychic, is to be especially in tune to certain mental or spiritual vibrations and being able to naturally decipher them in the brain as images or information.
People, who are especially attuned to the thoughts and emotions of others are called empaths and they can pick up spiritual or psychic imprints left behind by a living being just by passing or by touching an item.
Of course then one would argue that every single item in the world has been touched by at least one person and, therefore would have millions and millions of imprints on them.
Perhaps then it is prudent to narrow it down by saying that only when the specific item in question was "lived" in by it's owner is a distinct and recogniseable psychic imprint left.
In that sense, a pen treasured by a businessman as the first gift he obtained from his wife would more noteably possess a very distinct "feel" about it than say the public payphone at the corner of the street.
This is because when people, living people that is, touch objects we leave behind a little of what is called the soul's fingerprint. If one looks at the consciousness as the human soul then perhaps it is not difficult to see how just like the corporeal body leaves behind fingerprints so too does the soul leave behind a trace of itself.
Unlike the corporeal body though, which almost invariably always leaves behind its fingerprint, the spiritual self needs a strong fuel behind it, usually energy generated in the form of emotions to leave that imprint behind.
In that sense, I suppose if someone was particularly angry while talking on a public phone, an empath who picked up that phone but a moment later could channel the very same thoughts and emotions.
It is important of note though, that the ammount of emotional attachment to the object will increase the duration and strength of what is manifested through the empathic medium.
Take the concept of the psychic imprint and look at in on a different scale; think of a house that someone has lived in for a long ammount of time, and I'm sure we all have strong bonds of attachments to our houses, but think for a moment of a person whose bond is unnaturally, or perhaps supernaturally, strong and significant.
Now, if a person can leave behind a psychic imprint strong enough for an empath to decipher just by carrying around a pen given to him by his wife, think how much stronger that imprint would be if a person had lived all his or her life in a place doing the same routines over and over again, or if they had done something especially drastic in the place, like kill themselves for instance.
To the psychically sensitive, this becomes like a spiritual photocopier almost where it becomes almost possible to witness the person going through his daily routines, again and again and again almost as though he or she were still alive.
To the less psychically aware, glimpses of the person's past may appear. Figures out of the corner of the eye; actually a manifestation of the decease's psychic imprint that they pick up in bits and pieces. Incoherent puzzles that the brain can only project as vague translucent images of the person who once lived or random flashes of unexplained emotions and feelings (the feeling of being watched).
This is perhaps the most sympathetic view on spiritual manifestation. Not exactly a total discredit of sightings of ghosts and feelings of unease in purportedly haunted areas, but stemming once again from the amazing and untapped potential that is the human mind.
