Mayfly
by Zee bo Bee
Is your life defined by what you do? Or is what you do defined by your life?
Life is like the Mayfly, who spends a year as a worm in it's muddy, underwater world only to emerge in the Summer and fly about for not more than an hour only to end the culmination of their one year larval stage as bodies scattered all over the floor.
That we have to work so hard for something that is, for all it's worth, so ephemeral is all part and parcel of what we do in life.

Many people will insist that what we do defines who we are. But if that is the case, why is the Mayfly, who indeed spends about 99% of it's long life as a larva, defined as a Fly and not a Worm? Why is it, we do not remember it's wriggling bottom-feeding stage as much as the time of it's life when it trades it's gills for a pair of lacey wings and take to the sky in a gossamer dance, if only for half an hour on a certain day each year?
So perhaps then, the matter of the fact is, that we're not so much defined as what we do, as much as we are defined by the culmination of what we have done with our lives. And there is a difference, if you think about it.
PEACE OUT
