Did you say Your Anus?!
Hey ya'll
Do you ever think about one of those strange things in life. And no, before you even let your mind wander there, (which I'm sure it is doing now) and start thinking about things like anal sex or suppositories and enemas or whatever it is you can thinkg about when I mention the aforementioned body part don't! Because I'm not going there...not exactly.
Rather, have you ever wondered about the people who gave names to things, and did they ever think that maybe, sometime in the future that that name would, I dunnoe, create some sort of ridiculously embarrasing pun or something like that?
You know, like how parents (especially Chinese ones) give their kids wierd names which may translate into like cursewords or anatomical parts in another language or something (think Harry Kok). no offense meant of course...
but perhaps I should get straight to the point...how, and why on earth would Astronomers have ever named a planet Uranus which could so clearly be mis-pronounced and intepreted as Your-Anus
I can imagine the conversation going something like this...

I can imagine the conversation going something like this...
Astronomer 1: Hey dude, like, I just discovered a new planet
Astronomer 2: Yeah man like that's totally awesome!
Astronomer 1: Like, what should we name it?
Astronomer 2: Yeah, let's name it Uranus!
Astronomer 1: Great idea!
Astronomer 2: Yeah like, you should personally announce to the world your discovery of Uranus tomorrow!
Only the crazy thing about this whole conversation is that they probably never even thought it was funny back then...unless, of course Astronomer 2 was actually trying to make a funny or a pun or something like that and Astronomer 1 was not exactly the most accurate barometer in the lab (if you catch my drift) and took it literally or something.
An even crazier thing was that Uranus, after which the planet was most probably named for, was the God of the Sky. Now, I'm not saying anything (because technically I am not) but imagine back in the day when people went for Worship in the Temple of Uranus!
I guess this is another one of life's puns, that we just have to deal with once and for all. Anyway, before I go, there's something I wanna quote from the series Futurama (which is just like Simpsons only the Jokes are less stupid and you actually have to know your stuff to get them)
*Just in case you do not know, this is when Professor Farnsworth invents a smellascope which is like a telescope only it can detect the scents of anything in the Universe and asks his Uncle, Fry, (who is really from 1000 years in the past) to try it
Professor Farnsworth: Eureka!
Fry: Did you build the smellascope?
Professor Farnsworth: No, I remembered I'd built one last year. Go ahead, try it. You'll find that every heavenly body has its own particular scent. here, I'll point it at Jupiter
Fry: Smells like strawberries.
Professor Farnsworth: Exactly! And now, Saturn.
Fry: Pine needles. Oh man, this is great... hey, as long as you don't make me smell Uranus (bursts out laughing)
Leela: I don't get it.
Professor Farnsworth: I'm sorry, Fry, but astronomers renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all.
Fry: Oh. What's it called now?
Professor Farnsworth: Urrectum!

Goodnight folks.
PEACE OUT
