Leaves.

Fallen leaves cannot re-attach themselves to the tree,

flowers wall when they are torn by the brutal winds.
I suppose there are some things in our lives that we can't take back,

things that can forever scar, forever hurt.

I believe in positivity; that everything happens for a reason.

the fallen leaves give food for the insects, worms beneath the tree.

the flowers' decay to give nutrients to new forms of life.
There is good to be found, even in the midst of hopelessness.

ps. I like totally learnt how to play Unchained Melody on the guitar today! Was supposed to wait for V to teach me, but of course I was too impatient (sorry V but my male ego will not allow you to walk to far ahead!) Now I can't wait to show it to The Peacock.

p.ps. Wondering if The Peacock knows just how much I'm into it. Hmph, that's why I said we should be clearer with each other!

p.p.ps. Can't wait for the Monash Cultural Night tomorrow which shud be fun! I was thinking of going "Indian" to be more culturally diverse!

Le Cygne'

Oh how I sometimes wish to be the swan,

whose wings are so white that the sun,

rising from his sleep shed a tear just to see

his reflection on them.

And how it floats on and on in circles,

and the artist looks and sees a picture of beauty,

the lovers gaze on and are filled with affection,

the poet sighs at what he percieves; an aquatic ballet.

Even its death, so completely unremarkable

is a reminder of beauty and a bearer of myth;

the swan song so beautiful said to be sung in its last hour,

is never actually sung.

To inspire so much by just floating

upon a lake in the manner of ducks and geese,

is the essence of the Swan that alleviates its status'

and also that which I wish most to capture.

Too little of Too much

Sometimes, it sure seems almost like I'm taking on too much upon myself to make up for this feeling of inadequecy that I have.

Oh woe. But still, what is this notion of "too much" that I keep using today? After all, V's told me time and again how much more work she has compared to me and, I suppose if one were to look at it quantity-wise, I suppose she has.

Still, I don't believe that "too much" or "too little" is ever fixed for anybody. Yes, yes, I know they refer to quantities which are numbers which are (ugh!) fixed! But I don't think the adjective "too much" was created to refer to the quantity as much as it refers to the quality of that quantity! And because quality is different with different peopel, so is "too much" ! Get it? No?

Well, look here, a person with a big-appetite and a small-eater. Now, say I were to give these two individuals a plate with a fixed ammount of rice. Now, the big-appetite person may say "Can I have some more please? It's too little!" while the other small-eater would remark "I can't finish this! It's too much!"

SO, yeah, erh, what was my point again. Oh right; that I am entitled to think that I've got too much work even (when compared to in quantity) it is a lot less than what those Med students and Engineering students have to go through. SO there!

I don't believe in "emo"

WHAT is with me these days. It's like I don't have passion to do the things I've always loved doing anymore! No more Poke'mon, no more The Nanny, no more Grim and Mandy...no more poetry/story writing. And the funny thing about it all is, I don't mind! Well, at least not until I started ranting about it here and even so, I'm starting to question if I really do care.

Still, it's fairly annoying. It's not like I've lost my interest in these things, indeed I can still talk about Poke'mon, jabber about The Nanny and quote my favourite lines from Grim and Mandy...but still, all talk and no "do" makes Cyren a loudmouth, and even then, these days I am usually too lazy to even do just that.

What's becoming of me, life's just begun, new horizons discovered, relationships formed. It's like I'm stepping through the doorway of an awesome and new land just to curl up behind a rock and lull myself to sleep, perhaps talking to my dream people about how much I really enjoy travelling when I am not.

Still, I really don't wanna be "emo" considering how my blog-skin has become a butterfly...or rather three small butterflies (though how a gargantuan caterpillar turns into three small butterflies I'll never know)...oh and also because I don't believe in "emo"... so I will just articulate that some people are born lucky, have things fall into their laps; even when things seem wrong they always end up right. Others, not so lucky. BUT I'm never a pessimist anyway so even after taking volleys and volleys from the Bad-luck cannon I still believe that all this negativity is going to lead me someplace nice sooner or later.

On the other hand though, I suppose negativity is very much self-inflicted, though I suppose I can't help absorbing all these emotions from these overpowering individuals!

yech! I hate it how people can make me feel so stupid sometimes, or how my brain doesn't seem to want to function. Like the time in Sharon's class when I wanted to articulate my views on identity formation and the media and ended up saying

"you know....shoot people. Yeah. Like kids you know? Yeah....you know?" instead. Not one of my brighter statements I suppose. But it made her laugh.

So, in other words, no...I suppose my life doesn't stink after all! In fact it's pretty good, considering and as an optimist, I quite firmly believe that all this change in my life is going to lead to something special and beautiful!

And I'm not even going to say that there is a possibility it could go the other way. I simply won't.

After all, isn't attitude like...90% of happy life?

Monash Music Festival

hey ya'll

The Monash Music Festival is going to kick off this Saturday at the Monash University Sunway Campus Carpark beginning at 12pm all the way up to 12am. Now, I don't know what you guys have planned for that day but do try to drop by as in addition to the many upcoming talents we will be featuring an awesome line-up of totally rockin' local bands such as

Beat The System, Love Me Butch, Seven Colllar T-shirt and Love Me Butch!

Entrance tickets are only RM15 for the ENTIRE DAY and besides some totally rockin' performances there will also be food and drinks stalls as well as a bazaar which brings me to my next post;

The COSTA booth!

Once again, COSTA (that is Communications Students Association) is bringing back our limited edition hand-made bead bracelletes, all going from RM2 to RM5 depending on design and complexity. Note, though that ALL profits from our sales shall go to save Malaysian Tigers.

That's right, although we're allowed to keep the money this year, COSTA is taking a humanitarian/environmental stance yet again and wish to save the Malaysian Tiger, a beautiful and yet, sadly endangered animal.

In addition to that, yours truly will be providing Tarot reading services for an extremely CHEAP rm5 fee. One time only! All sales from the Tarot reading shall go to the COSTA Save the Tigers fund.

Anyway, I'm really hoping to see most of you there in support of the local Music scene as well as some upcoming new talents.

ps. Yours truly was responsible for the design of the buntings, posters and banners! COOL no?

Growth

Everything grows, even the world is constantly changing, her spirit developing.

I used to be fascinated by Death, and what awaits us on the other side of the material curtain, but not anymore. The wonderful thing about life, and growth is that it is always changing, always transforming into something new. Something better.

Plants grow, taller and bigger. They spread their roots into the bowels of the earth, carressing, stroking, slowly but surely. They spread their limbs into the vast expanse of the sky, ever reaching, ever searching to be closer to the nurturing rays of the warmth sun.

Hearts grow, closer or further and spirits are always on the road to enlightenment. Will I ever grow to know you? Love you? Feel you? Perhaps.

I used to think that I would never catch up. How far ahead you seemed. How tall. How big. I felt far behind.

Now I see that growth is not a matter of speed, or progress. It is a matter of change and fluidity, of transference. I see now, that growth is always different, and that we all grow at our own speed, at our own terms.

We grow with people, let them into our hearts. But each time it is always different. There's nothing to compare.

I want to grow with you. To learn. To feel. To understand. To know. Together. With you.

Page 2. Cyren and Terri's guide to magical creatures

Hey ya'll

These, what Terri recalls as "Scary Selkies" are actually Irish merfolk or Merrows.

While the females are generally hauntingly beautiful, the males are described as brutish in appearence, possesing a pig-like snout, tusks and red beady eyes. They are, however, quite friendly and jovial.

The merrow always wears a red-feathered headpiece which enables it to cross from our world to their watery one. On land, if the merrow were to remove such headpiece, it would transform into a beautiful human being with webbed hands or a quaint cattle.

Should a human steal the merrow's feathered-headpiece, it would be forever bound to that human until it finds it once more. Unlike Selkies who usually return to the sea when they find their seal-skin, most Merrow females are content being human wives considering their males are (even amongst their kind) considered quite ugly!

Draco Orientalis

Hey ya'll

Turns out V's Draco Avis wasn't the first Dragnon I've ever drawn! Check this out, the Draco Orientalis or chinese dragon, which Terri and I created one day during an extremely boring tuition class!

Still, I suppose V's dragon WAS the first winged western-type dragon I have drawn.

Don't you just love the colour? That was all Terri.

Baggages.

It's amazing how things can change as you walk. Like how a heavy bag can slowly warp in upon itself, it's canvas skin taking on a golden hue and powdery texture. It's contents dissolving, and then evaporating, and then transforming into an opalescent white vapour that is as firm as stone and yet lighter than air. But the first thing you notice is the weight. The weight is decreasing, little by little.

As the boy walk down this new and unexplored road he could feel the warping baggage upon his shoulders. Shifting and changing with each step. Pieces of it break off, attached by but a thin thread, and floats behind.

They drift after him, pulled by the thread and accumulate in numbers, slowly breaking off from the bag upon his shoulders.

But quite suddenly, without warning, the threads snap and he looks around just in time to see butterflies. A golden swarm. The threads have been snapped, the webs torn, the butterflies are flying away.

His shoulder still aches, but it is not the ache that comes from having a strong weight press down on one's shoulders. It is the ache that comes when that very same weight has been removed. He smiles, lies under a tree, and enjoys the sight.

Nature Island Getaway

Hey ya'll

Just returned from a much needed Getaway to Langkawi. Am already feeling the dreadful sounds of everyday-routine creeping in around the corners but I am inclined to ignore them for as long as possible.

I keep bleedin'

It would seem that I have a thing for being made up in Blood. After the messy fiasco in Visage of Lies, never had I thought I would experience having fake blood smeared all over me again. Well, apparently it's always too early to say never.

Anyways here's me at this year's COSTA bash, a night of Horror.

And here's me, as a rather exultant vampire after a particularly heavy meal. Time to laze on the couch and unbuckle the pants!

Pardon the mess, but I haven't grown into my fangs yet....chewing through flesh with blunt teeth was rather nasty business!

ps. The blood solution tasted AWFUL! I had to control my gag reflexes from working or I would've puked red!

The three sparrows
(for everyone who knows what it feels like, to make a thoughtful gamble, and take a leap of faith)

There was once a nest of birds. The occupants of the nest were really quite young, but most certainly old enough that they may take their first step off the branch and join their parents in - what this writer can only imagine would be - the exhiliration of flight.

And then there was this one bird, who was always eager and always so self-assured. And from the first day he hatched from his eggshell he had watched the other birds with envy and pride. That he knew that one day he too, might take to the skies on feathered wings of his own filled him with pride, and that as of yet he had to sit in his nest, naked and vulnerable while the other birds soared about him filled his tiny beating heart with envy.

"Some day," he swore. Headstrong and proud. "Some day, I will grow feathers of my own, and then I will jump out of this nest and fly up there with the other birds."

Still we must look to the other little bird on his left, a small and shrivelled up excuse of a thing, who - from the first day he weakly stuck his beak out of his little eggshell - was very much afraid of the prospect of leaping from so high a branch. He saw the other birds flying, his parents' encouraging him with chirps, but his heart was still with fear.

"For what if I fall!" He thought with a shiver. "Surely my wings aren't quite strong enough!"

But his parents encouraged him and still he could not bring himself to even open his wings.

"Flap! Flap!" his mother urged in her soft, sweet chirp.

"Yes! You must flap them!" Said his father, encouragingly.

But still his wings stayed folded by his sides. Tighter, surely than if someone had glued them first in place for sure.

And yet, the story still cannot move on, for there was still one more bird, and if there were indeed any word that could describe him, it would be "middle". For take just one look at him and you would see that he was the sort of bird that came out the "middle" in everything.

I suppose I should start by telling you that he was, to begin all things; a middle child.

He was not exceptionally big and gruff, like his father. Nor was he petite and exquisitely beautiful like his mother. He was just in the middle.

As for personality, he placed himself somewhere in between the boldness of his older brother, and the timidness of his younger.

And he thought to himself "flying, is about trust. And that is something I should think about."

And so came the day for the three birds to take off. "Don't fly too far!" said the mother bird in her sweet chirrup.

"And remember to only fly the way we thought you!" said the father bird in his stern-practical way.

The oldest bird, the most headstrong and confident of the three leapt off without notice. "Here I come!" he said in the loudest song you could possibly imagine. All the other birds turned and looked at the young bird as he flew and flew around the tree.

"That's quite enough!" said the mother bird, sweet but worried.

"Come back now!" said the father bird, anxious and stern.

But the bird was too full of joy and himself. And he flew and he flew. The other birds had begun to stare, the younger ones with admiration, the older ones reprimanding, which only served to fill him with even more pride and he thought to himself, if he could not invent a flying stunt that would crown him forever as the legendary flier of the tree.

And he swooped and he soared, and eventually, when he had obtained enough momentum, he began to perform a most beautiful and breathtaking loop through the air. His feathers swayed, borne on the wind. "I trust the air!" He said.

And beautiful it would have been, except that he did not quite notice a sudden wayward breeze. And all of a sudden the bird lost control of his flight! "Mother!" he cried. "Father! please help me!" as he plummeted to the ground. Down. Down. Down until....splat! And that was the end of the older bird. 30 seconds was all it took.

The mother and father bird shook their heads sadly, but otherwise did nothing, for this was most certainly not their first nest, and this was certainly not the first of their young to perish in such a foolhardy manner.

"Go on then," the mother bird said coaxingly to the other two birds. "Fly off now."

"And do be careful!" the father bird added.

But the youngest bird was scared to the spot. "I-I-I can't!" he stammered, for he was very much shaken by his brother's death. "What if I crash? What if I fall? What if I die? What if my wings aren't strong?" So many questions he had to ask, offered like a shield that would protect him.

"You will never know if you do not try," the mother bird tried again, coaxingly.

"No...I can't!" he cried.

"Very well then," she said with a sigh. "And how about you?" this to the "middle" bird.

He simply nodded. He could feel the wind on his tail, carressing him, inviting him. A terribly partner, the wind, and yet called to him so seductively. "It's only natural to want to jump into the wind," thought the middle bird. "It's a part of our nature as birds!"

And yet, there didn't seem to be any reason for him to jump in headfirst either. Instead, he spread his wings. The wind blew against the contours of his feathers, providing him the gentle feeling of the lift that would surely follow when he took his first leap of faith.

And he stood there, for what must be hours, waiting and contemplating. Thinking. The father bird and the mother bird did not rush him. Instead, they stood, flanking his poor timid younger sibling and watched on in silent anticipation. He was clearly taking his time, testing the waters. But of course that would not mean that he would be entirely safe.

Anything, you see, is possibly.

And then suddenly he felt it. The right sort of wind. The right sort of lift. And he jumped. And he flew, higher and higher in to the sky and he knew the meaning of life, and he knew that he had fullfilled the most basic destiny of all birds. The destiny of flight.

For all creatures in the world have their own individual destinies. Yet, some destinies are so strong that they bind entire species together as one. A basic feeling, a primal instict, something so inherent to us that it is almost hardwired into our DNA.

Having fullfilled his destiny, the younger bird lived the rest of his life in happiness. But of course he had his problems, and of course there were times when life had him down, still, he was always comforted and calmed by the knowledge that he had lived for something greater than his own, that he had taken a thoughtful gamble, fallen in wind, and thrived.

But what happened to the youngest bird you ask? Well, I suppose he sat in his nest for the rest of his life, too timid and afraid to ever take the jump. And there he stayed, long after his parents had left to start a new nest in another tree, there he shivered in the cold after all the birds had migrated in winter, and there he had stayed until the day he died.
