    THREE words
    by zee bo bee

    You know, there are three words that can completely change a person's life. Three, words;

    I

    LOVE

    YOU

And yet, the same three words have often been used again and again and again so many times that it has become almost some sort of a cli-che'. As I lay in bed last night, not five minutes from when I put down the phone, I began to think to myself "what can I say in return, that would not be a cli-che?".

And so I thought, almost all night to myself and still no answer. The truth is, the very three words that some people can fling about so callously are also the very same three words that, when used in earnest can make someone's heart stop so that, momentarily their soul flies to heaven and have to be turned away by Saint Peter at the gates.

"Go back!" he will say as he checks the guest list. "It's not your time!"

To which you might respond. "Then why am I here?"

"You're not dead! You're in love."

And then down you would come, plummeting through the clouds and atmosphere. Faster than the speed of light! Faster than Superman ! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's your soul being called back by the gravitational pull that is your newfound affections for the voice on the other end of the phone.

Three simple words can send you to heaven and back.

And yet, there I was, in a state of anxiety and unrest. Surely; I. Love. You cannot be the only words there are to be said to someone who has made you feel so special. I felt cheated almost, that my expressions of affection should be limited by these three simple words which could mean everything and nothing.

I remembered a conversation I had once with a girl, probably not more than 4 years old.

    "To be in love,"

    she had said

"is when you're heart pounds out of your chest, your eyes make funny flapping movements, and little hearts fly out of you."

"And just how would you know this?"
I asked, sceptical for sure with thoughts of a Hannah Barbera production in mind.

"Spongebob!" she said, clear and convicted.

And then; Realisation. The reason why the very three words I. Love. You, were used, was simply because from the very first time man had tried to this very day, there are really no words that can express how one feels in such a situation.

It wasn't that the emotions could be described by something as cli-che and simple as "I love you". It was simply that there IS nothing that could quite justify the term anyway.

In a sense, "I love you" means nothing if, as the girl mentioned "your heart does not pound out of your chest, your eyes DON'T make funny flapping movements, and little hearts fail to fly out of you."

And, on that note I turned over on my side, pulled my comforters up to my chin and went to sleep thinking about all those times when you made my heart stop, my eyes flutter, and little hearts fly out of my ears.

    I

    LOVE

    YOU

    PEACE OUT
